Bell and Howell demonstrated its Criterion Apex sorting system at drupa. The company says the system provides pre-sort businesses and private European mail carriers to adapt their operations as needed as business needs change. more

MGI Digital Graphic Technology of Ivry-sur-Seine, France, announced a new lineup of products, including a broad range of new toner and inkjet digital production devices, at drupa. The new products include a preview of the AlpahJet B2 sheetfed inkjet press scheduled for commercial release next year, the JETvarnish 3D digital spot UV coater, the Meteor DP8700 S dry toner press, Nova UV inline UV coater scheduled for release late this year, and the Jet 7540 4-6 color inkjet press. more
GMG has introduced BMB OpenColor, a proofing system designed by Dr. Hanno Hoffstadt’s research group for advanced color management. According to the press release, GMG OpenColor creates color-accurate proof reproductions of print processes using spot colors and multicolor separations with more than the traditional four process colors for offset, flexo, and gravure prints. more
Kodak presented its Print Ambassador Lifetime Achievement Award to Frank Romano at drupa. Romano is the third recipient of the award, created to honor individuals with a passion for advocacy and education in the printing industry. For more than 50 years Romano has worked for in the graphic arts industry. He has worked industry suppliers, written dozens of books and articles, served as a professor in the field, addressed professional groups worldwide, and consulted with most major print suppliers, and more, very much more. The Seybold Report congratulates Romano, a long-time Friend of Seybold, for receiving this well deserved honor. more
At drupa Esko has introduced Color Engine 12, its latest color management module for its Suite 12 print workflow system for package and label printing. According to the press release, Color Engine 12 builds on spectral data to define ink profiles, effectively manages spot colors, and is the first professional management system to integrate PantoneLIVE. more
Epson has introduced the SurePress L-4033AW, a seven-color inkjet digital label press with white ink. The company says the new press can provide high print quality and accurate color reproduction on a wide variety of standard label substrates including clear and metallic. more
Xitron has announced the Navigator Mobile Proofing Approval app for the Navigator workflow for use with iOS and Android devices at drupa. The app, based on patent pending technology, includes:

CGS will show a set of new products for the packaging industry including the results of a partnership with Color-Logic at drupa (hall 8b/stand A66) including RealVue 3D Packager, a new application for packaging design and visualization that works with DXF, PDF, and Adobe Illustrator files and the integration of Color-Logic’s Process Metallic Color System with RealVue 3D Packager and the ORIS color prototyping environment. more

The system incorporates user controllable job management and ticketing, integrated soft proofing, printer device control at operator workstations, PDF creation and preflighting, ink remapping, imposition integration, and scriptable hot folders. MGi Digital Graphic Technology will show its new JETvarnish 3-D inkjet spot UV coater with increased production speed and 3-D spot embossing capabilities at drupa. The new machine combines production spot UV coating speeds and enhanced UV coating thickness, creating a 3-D effect with variable thicknesses. more
