GMG has released GMG ColorServer 4.8, an updated version of its color management software. The company says the latest version has numerous new features, but notably includes number of other features including improved conversion of PDF files, new RGB-to-CMYK separation profiles, as well as optimized performance. more

Trade-in Program for X-Rite-eXact Spectrophotometers Announced

X-Rite has initiated a worldwide trade-in program for the X-Rite-eXact series of spectrophotometers. The company says customers will receive a rebate ranging from 550€ to 800€ which can be applied to a purchase of a standard, advanced or densitometer version of eXact for each qualifying instrument on a specified list of more than 38 X-Rite, GretagMacbeth (Gretag) or similar handheld instruments. more

Matchmycolor Names John Sweeney as Business Development Manager for the Americas

Matchmycolor has announced the appointment of industry veteran John Sweeney as the company's Business Development Manager for the Americas. In making the announcement, Matchmycolor Managing Partner Judy van de Langkruis said Sweeney is “a recognized thought leader in color measurement, color management, and color control technologies and trends” who “brings extensive business development experience” to the position. Primary Color Uses SpotOn to Manage G7 Color Processes

Primary Color has announced it has been using SpotOn! to manage its G7 color processes for five years and is pleased with the results. The company made an early commitment to G7 in 2007, before any tools to help with the process had emerged. Jay Sato, Primary Color’s CTO, explains the company initially used a difficult, time-consuming color management method involving hand-held devices, but has found using SpotOn makes managing the press much easier. more

SpotOn! Releases New Verify Product Online

SpotOn! has released Verify, a tool to quickly determines whether proofs, press sheets, digital grand format, and other types of print are within tolerance of G7, ISO, or custom specifications. The company says the evaluation tool uses the dynamic properties of true G7 math and is recognized by IDEAlliance as a G7 support tool. more

Color Logic Offers Consulting for Process Metallic Color System

Color Logic has announced it will offer consulting services for using the Process Metallic Color System. The company's Chief Technical Officer Richard Ainge says brand managers often ask for help in using the system to product labels and packaging, and the company will now offer formal assistance. more

At Graph Expo SpotOn! will introduce its Verify module that monitors printing devices against G7 and ISO12647 and custom specifications. The company says the module verifies vendor or customer proofs and monitors print variation over time to determine when printers should be re-calibrated. more

GMG Introduces OpenColor Proofing at drupa

GMG has introduced BMB OpenColor, a proofing system designed by Dr. Hanno Hoffstadt’s research group for advanced color management. According to the press release, GMG OpenColor creates color-accurate proof reproductions of print processes using spot colors and multicolor separations with more than the traditional four process colors for offset, flexo, and gravure prints. more

Esko Introduces Color Engine 12 Module

At drupa Esko has introduced Color Engine 12, its latest color management module for its Suite 12 print workflow system for package and label printing. According to the press release, Color Engine 12 builds on spectral data to define ink profiles, effectively manages spot colors, and is the first professional management system to integrate PantoneLIVE. more

NPES Announces Tech Report on Color Conformance in Print Production

NPES, the Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing, and Converting Technologies, has published a new technical report CGATS/T016:2012 Graphic Technolog --Printing Tolerance and Conformity Assessment, which solves the problem printers face matching colors specified by the print buyer. The report provides new tolerance guidelines (characterization datasets) for color conformance from the receipt of the job from the buyer through proofing to print production. more
