InterQuest has announced an inaugural awards program recognizing leadership and innovation in digital book printing. The awards will be presented at a reception hosted by Xerox on March 20, following the 2012 Digital Book Printing Forum in the Marriott Marquis New York. Because this is the inaugural event, the panel will look back over the past five years to recognize manufacturers and publisher who have led the development of digital printing. more 

Espresso Book Machine Will Be Available Directly From Xerox

Xerox has announced the Espresso Book Machine, built on Xerox technology, will be available for purchase directly from Xerox. The company will now market, sell or lease and service the system, giving retailers new ways to drive revenue. The company will demonstrate the equipment at Graph Expo in early October 2011. more

Ingram Publisher Services Announces Three New Clients

Ingram Publisher Services Inc. has signed ArtsMemphis, the Cooking Lab, and Tharpa Publications. ArtsMemphis is a non-profit organization focused on building a vibrant cultural community in Memphis, TN through supporting the arts. The Cooking Lab, founded by culinary and food scientist Dr. Nathan Myhrvold, is the publisher of the six-volume comprehensive study entitled Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking, scheduled for release in March. Tharpa Publications specializes in books on meditation and Buddhism. more

Ingram's Coutts Named Primary Book Supplier for Florida College System

Coutts Information Services Ltd., an Ingram Content Group company, has been named the statewide primary academic book supplier for colleges and universities in the state of Florida by the Florida State University Libraries. Ingram says Coutts was selected because of the quality of its library and its strong technology, including the OASIS library interface and e-book platform and print-on-demand from Ingram's Lightning Source. more

Worldcolor Announces High-Speed Press and Binding System Solution for Short-Run Books

Worldcolor has partnered with Kodak and Muller Martini to create a new system for producing short-run books. The new FastBook Digital system automates book prepress, digital printing, and finishing. Worldcolor promises production rates of 1,000 books an hour in color and black-and-white. more

RR Donnelley Wins Multi-Year, Multi-Million Dollar Contract from Workman Publishing

Workman Publishing Co. has awarded a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement to R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., renewing and expanding their relationship. Under its terms, RR Donnelley will provide book and calendar production services. This contract complements an existing arrangement through which RR Donnelley provides Workman Publishing with warehousing and fulfillment services. more

United Kingdom book printer Butler, Tanner, and Dennis has chosen Prism WIN 2010 to replace its existing management information system. This full "forklift" MIS replacement will include Kodak Prinergy, JDF integration, product scheduling, and shop floor data capture. more

RR Donnelley Signs Penguin Group

RR Donnelley has won a contract to produce most of the digital printing and binding for Penguin Group (USA) Inc. The contract covers Penguin's digitally printed adult and young readers trade hardcover, trade paperback, mass market paperback books, bound galleys, and advanced reader copies. more

RR Donnelley Signs Multi-Million Dollar Contract with Publisher Thomas Nelson

RR Donnelley has signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to produce Bibles and other religious texts for Thomas Nelson, Inc. The contract renews and expands the existing relationship between the two organizations. Thomas Nelson, Inc. produces Bibles, products and live events emphasizing Christian, inspirational, and family-value themes. more

Coutts Opens e-Book Library to New York Universities

In a creative risk-sharing agreement, Coutts Information Services Ltd., an Ingram Content Group company, has agreed with ConnectNY, a consortium of academic libraries within New York state, to allow patrons of those libraries full free access to the entire Coutts e-book library. Under the agreement, ConnectNY will purchase books library patrons use. This patron-driven book acquisition model reduces the risk that the consortium will buy books that never circulate, a major problem for libraries according to Bart Harloe, University Librarian at St. Lawrence University and Administrative Coordinator for ConnectNY. Harloe estimates nearly 40% of books libraries purchase never leave library shelves. more

CPI, a leading European book printer, has purchased the first HP T300 Inkjet Web Press to be installed in Europe. The press was installed in CPI's Firmin-Didot subsidiary in late 2009 with trial operations beginning in November. more

RR Donnelley Awarded $375 M Contract from Cengage Learning

RR Donnelley has signed a $375 million, multi-year contract to provide college textbook printing, graphic management services, packaging, on-demand printing, and other services to Cengage Learning. Donnelley will help the publisher deliver highly customized learning tools to colleges, universities, libraries, and other users under a portfolio of well-known company and imprint brands. more
