Hubergroup and Heubach have announced the results of a strategic partnership between the two companies: HYDRO-X, a modular user system for the production of water-based flexo-printing packaging inks. Hubergroup is selling the system in two versions: GA for GMP compliant production and MGA for maximum reliability for packaging that comes into indirect contact with food. more
has added a Digital Ink System to its suite of color, register, and
inspection controls for web offset printers. The company says the system replaces
conventional ink fountains with computer-controlled ink injectors,
providing much more accurate density control across the printed image at
press speed and eliminates the costs of contamination from
open fountains, resulting in significant, immediate savings in ink,
paper, and maintenance. more
Océ showed its new Premium Pigment Black and other Premium Pigments
inks for the Océ ColorStream 3000 presses at Graph Expo. This is the first time the
company has shown Premium Pigment Black in the United States after the company introduced the ink at drupa earlier this year. more
Laboratories (UL) has given HP Latex Inks and HP A50 Inkjet Web Press Inks
the first Sustainable Product Certifications given to water-based inks.
The certifications are under the UL environmental Standard for
Sustainability for Printing Inks (UL 2801), guaranteeing the ink
meets stringent criteria related to human health and the environment.
CGS will announce three products for the North American market at Labelexpo: Oris XG Inks, an extended-gamut eco solvent
ink set including orange and green; Oris Transparent Film, and the RealPro Packaging Suite, an
automated workflow system and 3-D visualization environment for labels

Pantone and ad agency Leo Burnett have created a limited-edition color guide for the Diamond Jubilee of British Queen Elizabeth II. The companies say the Queen is known for her perfectly color coordinated ensembles and the color guide captures and commemoratse some of her most memorable color choices. more
Pantone has announced the addition of 336 new colors to the Pantone Plus Series, the next generation of the Pantone Matching System, bringing the system total to 1,677 colors. The company says the 25% increase in defined shades gives designers more options and flexibility. more
Color-Logic will introduce a new feature of its Process Metallic Color System at drupa. This feature, Security-FX, uses silver ink or metallic substrate to produce security effects when printing with metallic inks. more
Pantone has announced its Fashion Color Report Fall 2012, a comprehensive overview of use of color in upcoming designer collections. The free report features the top 10 colors for women’s and men’s fashion for Fall along with designer sketches, quotes, and headshots. The report may be downloaded from the Pantone site. more
The European Union’s EuroStars R&D program is funding the development of an educational program to train printers in the use of UV inks. A group of industry and research organizations are cooperating to develop a training simulator and a diagnostic help system based on a set of structured expertise and press tests. Project results are expected to be published in 2014. more
Color-Logic has formed a technology partnership with Nazdar, a manufacturer of ultraviolet, water-based, and solvent-based wide-format digital, screen printing, and flexographic inks. The two companies will develop UV inks that complement the Color-Logic Process Metallic Color System and enable screen printers to take advantage of Color-Logic features, according to Color-Logic Director of Sales and Marketing Mark Geeves. Color-Logic has approved several Nazdar ink families for use with the Process Metallic Color System. more
Pantone released its free Fashion Color Report Spring 2012 in conjunction with New York Fashion Week. The report lists the top 10 colors for women’s and men’s fashion for Spring along with designer sketches, quotes, and headshots and provides the CMYK, Pantone Plus, and Goe conversions for the top colors. more
Xennia Technology has signed a distribution agreement with Esmaltes S.A. of Castellon, Spain to supply Xennia’s inkjet inks to the ceramics industry. The worldwide partnership will provide digital ceramic printing support to ceramic tile producers worldwide. more
Color-Logic has named Schlenk Metallic Pigments, a manufacturer of metal powders, pigments, and pastes for more than 130 years, a technology partner. Schlenk Metallic Pigments is the first Color-Logic technology partner producing qualified Color-Logic UV flexographic inks. Licensed Color-Logic flexographic printers can obtain these specialized inks made by Schlenk through their current ink supplier. more
