Wired UK Named Magazine of the Year in Digital Magazine of the Year Awards

Wired UK has been named Magazine of the Year and won the tech and gadget category, with editor David Rowam winning Editor of the Year 2011 in the Digital Magazine of the Year Awards 2011. Wired UK won the top award in competition against digital magazines from 18 countries in the annual contest sponsored by Quark. Other magazines receiving awards include T3, British Vogue, Food Network Magazine, The New Yorker, and Astronaut magazine. more

MGI Wins Engineering Prize for Innovation

MGI Digital Graphic Technology has received the Enginnering Prize for Innovation. The jury honored MGI’s research and development team for the innovation shown in development of the JETcard, the first solution using MGI’s color inkjet technology. Other 2011 winners include Airbus and Total Petroleum Group. more

Kodak Expands Thermal Direct and PF-N Plate Production

Kodak has extensively upgraded its plate manufacturing capabilities in its Leeds, UK facility, increasing its production capacity of process-free plates. The company is responding to growing demand from commercial and publication printers. Total demand for these products has grown by an average of 35% during the past two years. The enhanced production line will also help Kodak prepare for introduction of a new product early in 2012. more

InfoTrends Publishes Report on Digital Front-Ends

InfoTrends has published a study of digital front-ends including explanations of what the front ends do, and why printers need them. The study is based on results of surveys of nearly 600 U.S.-based print providers measuring DFE adoption, satisfaction, brand preferences and future requirements. more

Quark has announced Jabber, an iPad app for designers and creative professionals. Featuring design news, designers and their work, guest commentary, and creative infographics, Jabber focuses on reader experience. Built with QuarkXPress 9 and App Studio, the app uses scrollable layouts, slideshows, videos, pop-ups, and HTML5 content to take full advantage of the functionality of the iPad. more

Pantone Names Color of the Year for 2012: Tangerine Tango

Pantone has crowned Pantone 17-1463 Tangerine Tango as the color of the year for 2012, replacing the 2011 color-of-the-year, Pantone 18-2120 Honeysuckle. Tangerine Tango is a reddish orange. more
